What is the purpose of the self-awareness group?
The Self-awareness group provides a safe, structured context for self-exploration, self-expression, sharing your thoughts, concerns, feelings and experiences, exchanging feedback and mutual support, and dealing with emotional issues such as anxiety, sadness etc., Also, for discovering alternative ways of coping with adversities, developing your interpersonal skills and growing your creative ability.
How does it work?
The group is facilitated by a skilled therapist while the therapeutic means used include self-expression techniques, body-centered techniques (body awareness, breathing exercises, discharge of tensions, relaxation techniques etc.), awareness of emotions and behavior, creative visualization, empathy. These means help group members to escape from the stereotyped ways of behavior they have adopted and release their potential.
Like psychotherapy, the self-awareness group works within a defined framework (therapeutic framework) which involves the place, time and duration of the sessions, their frequency, the therapist's fee, confidentiality and any detail around these issues.
It is also governed by rules regarding consistency of presence, interpersonal relationships and confidentiality among group members.
Group meetings are held at a fixed day and time, weekly or fortnightly.
How can I join a self-awareness group?
In my clinical practice, people interested in joining a self-awareness group need to have some individual sessions with me in order to identify the issues that concern them and to see whether the group is suitable for them.
